Figs Are Synonymous with Fertility and Other Things

Don't laugh!  At our age, who is thinking about fertility, you ask?  Perhaps no one, however when I stumbled upon this wonderful image in the options for my blog theme, I was literally overcome with the Spirit. How so?

If you aren't aware yet, I am very proud of my Greek heritage.  My mother was first generation American born Greek. My father however was born on a very small island in the Aegean, and he taught us to love our heritage.  I have been told that Greek Americans often hang on to their culture more so than Greeks still living in their home land.  I don't believe this, but what I do believe is that my Greek blood is in the very marrow of my bones, in my DNA, and in my soul!

Greeks love figs!  Although figs apparently originated in the Middle East and perhaps were first cultivated in Egypt, we know that the fig was an everyday food among the poor in Ancient Greece. Pressed figs were often used as a substitute for bread.  The leaves of the fig tree were used to wrap cheeses and meats. Figs were very important to the Greeks, so much so that they were banned from being exported.

What spoke to me so strongly when I first laid eyes on this image, was the spiritual and symbolic connection I felt at that moment to this journey, Work Your Wisdom.

The fig tree, as I mentioned above is synonymous with fertility. I won't go into the reasons for that here on this blog, but there is plenty information on the web, if you are so inclined.

The fig represents peace and abundance.

The symbolisms associated with figs are prosperity, well being, safety, security and blessings.

The fig tree does not grow overnight to maturity.  A healthy fig tree shows that the dedication of the  gardener.  If the tree bears great fruit, it tells us that the gardener has been attentive to his crop and to its growth, continuously and steadfastly. He therefore reaps the fruits of his labor.

As mature adults, we often reflect on our lives and contemplate our journey to this point.  Often there is sorrow that we could have done more, should have done things differently, or wonder how things would have been different if only...  This is not a complete waste of energy, but let's not beat ourselves up as we ponder.

My intent for Work Your Wisdom is for you, for us all to move forward realizing all that we have done was with the knowledge that we had at the time. Let's use our wisdom to build our future and benefit others around us. I therefore wish you peace and abundance in all things.  I pray that you are blessed with prosperity, a sense of well being, safety, security and all that our Heavenly Father has yet to bless you with on the remainder of your journey here upon this earth.

Now go forth and Work Your Wisdom! 💓
