How'd I Get Here?
For nearly the past decade, I have dedicated a good portion of my life to a small start-up company. I loved my work family and together we rolled up our sleeves and willingly sacrificed much to contribute to the success of the company. Last month my employment ended in a termination due to an acquisition by a larger corporation. Although the sale of the company was not a surprise, I found myself in a very undesirable situation. Firstly, I had worked so hard for the success of the company and its founders, that I can’t deny that there wasn’t a great letdown that this is how it would all end. Secondly, here I sit nearly ten years older entering the job market. Reality is that it is not easy for us more mature individuals with years of experience to compete with young people just starting their careers, willing to accept lower pay.
